ORIGIN

Umbanda has its origins in the spiritual traditions of West Africa. There are many forms of Umbanda, and the principles and practices of Umbanda vary from temple to temple. The Guaracy Temple has its own philosophy and respects all forms of Umbanda and all manifestations of wisdom contained in the different spiritual traditions of the world.

The Guaracy Temple of Brazil was founded in 1973 by Babalorixá Carlos Buby. Currently, the Guaracy Temple maintains regular activities in Brazil and in nine other locations in Europe and the United States.

PHILOSOPHY

The Guaracy Temple is committed to the preservation and full development of life. This commitment includes a deep respect for nature, both the natural world and the natural processes of life. In Guaracyan Philosophy, life is recognized as the essential expression of light which, at a given moment in eternity, fragmented. This fragmentation gave rise to the different forms of reality.

The Umbanda tradition facilitates communication between the material and immaterial planes of existence through the development of mediumistic perception. The Guaracy Temple understands the purpose of this communication as a guide for spiritual growth and the expansion of human consciousness.

The Guaracy Temple of Traditions is a non-profit organization recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
